For generations, the Otto family has been part of the fabric of the Sandwich Fair. Their father, Augie Otto, built the one quarter scale steam train that has delighted fair goers since 1953. Known as “Otto’s Train,” the ride was originally the Iron Pony and later replaced in 1974 by a replica of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy 3000 class locomotive, handcrafted with care by Augie.
Today, brothers Allen Otto and Norman Otto proudly carry on that tradition. The train, the rides, the smiles of children and families—these aren’t just fairground attractions. They reflect a deeper commitment to heritage, craftsmanship and reliability. “They’ve kept their father’s legacy alive,” the local press noted. The train stands not only as a centerpiece at the fair, but as a testament to the Otto family’s dedication – and that same dedication shows up in how they equip their business.
Allen has been a longtime customer of McCann Industries and a faithful Takeuchi owner since the brand arrived in the U.S. His previous machine, a TL10, was purchased from McCann Account Manager JR Boerner in August 2016. The relationship runs deep. This past season, that partnership came full circle at the Sandwich Fair when Allen and JR finalized the deal for a new TL11R3. This machine is a powerful addition to their farm operation, delivering high flow hydraulics, strong lifting performance, intuitive controls, and a comfortable cab.

At the delivery site, JR and Paul Wade, Takeuchi Regional Business Manager, walked Allen through the machine and explained how the TL11R3 stands apart from the competition. “Because of its radial lift boom and near 8,000 lb breakout force, the TL11R3 gives you the strength of a larger machine in a mid sized footprint,” JR explained. The tracks and undercarriage also made a mark: wide rubber tracks, double flanged rollers and a fully welded steel one piece frame give the machine impressive traction, stability and durability in real jobsite conditions.
For Allen, the purchase was more than an upgrade. It respected the past while propelling his business forward. Just as his family has kept Otto’s Train running ride after ride, year after year, Allen chooses machines that keep his operation moving—and moving well. McCann Industries is proud to support long term partners like Otto Brothers, for whom legacy, reliability and a trusted supplier matter as much as performance on the job.
