3/8 Inch Hydraulic Hose Assemblies

A 3/8 inch hose is nominally dash size -6, but hose diameter alone does not determine the fitting. The correct fitting depends on the hose construction, connection type, thread, equipment circuit and required orientation. Common connection options may include JIC, NPTF, ORFS, ORB, SAE flange, metric and quick-coupler ends, although branch stock varies. Provide the failed hose, equipment details or accurate measurements before crimping.

High-pressure classification is based on the hose construction and its rated working pressure for the specific circuit, not simply its bore size. Excavator implement and hammer circuits can experience pressure spikes and impulse cycling, so the selected construction must suit the application. McCann does not publish a universal working-pressure rating for 3/8 inch assemblies; the rating must be confirmed from the selected hose construction and matched assembly system.

Provide the failed hose whenever possible, along with the machine make, model and serial number. The assembler also needs the overall length, fitting style, thread type, end orientation or clocking, hose construction and hydraulic fluid information. If the old hose is unavailable, accurate measurements and clear photographs can help, but the final configuration should be confirmed before crimping because custom-made assemblies may not be returnable.

On-site fabrication can be useful when equipment cannot be moved easily. The final assembly still requires correct measurements, fitting selection, hose construction, crimp specifications, routing and pressure suitability for the machine circuit.
